In 2019, Kawai took a major step forward with the introduction of the ST-1 Institutional Piano, the new standard in institutional piano performance that succeeded the popular UST-9.

Like the UST-9, the new ST-1 features the Millennium III Upright Action (with ABS-Carbon parts) that is known for its stable, consistent touch and performance. But the ST-1 goes even farther with longer keys for more consistent touch response, a “Soft Fall” fallboard closing system that protects hands and the piano’s finish from the harm that jarring close might cause, back posts that measure 80mm x 80mm for maximum rigidity and stable tuning, and a 47″ raised music rest that is the longest on any institutional piano.
